The nature of medical waste and efforts to protect the environment from its damage.

Abstract

Hospitals and sanatoriums leave behind a lot of medical waste at the level of daily activity, which varies from ordinary waste to hazardous waste; and this waste has a serious impact on the environment, and the health of the person dealing with it, such as medical staff, cleaners and nurses, as well as resident and visiting patients, so we embark on this research by defining medical waste, its types, sources of generation, damage, and international and regional efforts to protect the environment from the damage of medical waste, The researcher concluded that medical waste is all that results from medical activities and activities attached to them of all kinds, which result in pollution of the environment, and damage to the health and safety of the living organism, and therefore local and international authorities must develop a comprehensive definition of prevention and accuracy of medical waste, and the need to provide health care and insurance for all workers in the field of medical waste, in addition to enlightening the medical community about the types of medical waste and its risks, increasing environmental awareness among individuals and educating young people from a young age on the need to preserve the environment. And the work of organized training courses for medical staff, nursing and all workers in the field of medical waste, and the need to issue legislation on medical waste brings together the various legal texts, and includes deterrent penalties for each violator.
