Abstract

Due to the dangers caused by plastic waste, and its negative effects on human health and the environment, many countries have been prompted to search for the best ways to dispose of plastic waste, to keep its dangers away from natural persons, living organisms, society and the environment in general. The Corona pandemic also represents a major challenge in the field of solid waste management, Many governments and local authorities have suspended or postponed some of their policies on single-use plastics, in favor of strengthening measures to mitigate the spread of infection. While the sixth Global Environment Outlook report, issued by the United Nations Environment Programme in 2019, The amount of plastic waste that reaches the oceans annually is estimated at about 8 million tons, the pandemic has caused the addition of about 129 billion masks and 65 billion plastic gloves consumed by the world monthly as a result of the pandemic, and is threatening aquatic media and living species with an unprecedented rise in plastic pollution. A study from the University of Leeds estimated the total amount of plastic that will pollute the Earth's and ocean environment in the next 20 years at 1.3 billion tons.
