Crisis of Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on The Balance of International Law of Water and International Agreements

Abstract

The research deals with the international regulation of cross-border fresh water in terms of the legal framework for sharing common fresh water and the controls for establishing dams on international rivers, and methods for settling international water disputes, with a focus on the Ethiopian dam crisis in the Nile River basin and its repercussions on the water security of the downstream countries and the East African region as a whole. The research also focuses on the effectiveness of the rules and organs of international law in confronting the Ethiopian intransigence that violates the international legitimacy regulating the rules of fairness and justice among the riparian countries, all within a framework of scenarios and expectations.
