Abstract

Electronic systems represent a unique case, expressing the extent of development reached by nations and peoples in our time, and this development has been accompanied by the emergence of a new category of crimes, represented in the assault on the information system and its contents, or illegal or unauthorized access to the information system, as entering the system without the permission of its owner is in itself a crime, and this entry may be associated with a number of acts that are considered independent crimes, And a reason for doubling the penalty. In view of the great importance of electronic systems, and the extent of their impact on human life, the Omani legislator, through the Anti-Information Technology Crimes Law No. 12 of 2011, has tried to protect electronic systems criminally, as Article (3) stipulates a number of crimes and acts, which constitute an attack on the information system or website. Such as intentionally and unlawfully accessing a website, information system, or information technology means or part thereof, or exceeding or continuing to access them after knowing that with the aim of altering, modifying, distorting, destroying, copying or destroying electronic information stored in the information system.
