The reality of higher education in Libya and methods of financing.

Abstract

University education is one of the main educational institutions that play an effective role in the processes of social, economic and political development, and then bet on it Libya in achieving social, economic and political progress since the early seventies of the last century. The follower of the conditions of university education in Libya since the establishment of the first higher educational institution, the Faculty of Arts as the nucleus (of the Libyan University) in 1955 with (33) students to find a remarkable development in the number of students, In 2007-2010, the number of students enrolled reached more than 319,000 students spread over 14 universities.This expansion of higher education is accompanied by an increase in the volume of funding fully subsidized by the state, and thus the problem will worsen with the passage of time until the day comes when it is difficult for universities to absorb the increasing numbers of enrollment. The weak alignment between the outputs of university education institutions and the labor market, and the continued exacerbation of the financing burden on the state, which increased from $ 1150 in 1980 to reach approximately $ 2374 in 2010.
