Abstract

The Indian experience in the pharmaceutical industry is a beacon for developing countries that are trying to balance the health needs of their citizens with economic success, as the Indian pharmaceutical industry has risen to the top of the global similar pharmaceutical industry, until it is called the "pharmacy of the world". In that context, India meets about 50% of the global demand for vaccines, and is the largest provider of generic medicines in the world, and since the recipe for success is not the same, the experiences of economic success vary according to its own unique circumstances, as each success is the result of experience and the factors that made it. However, the study of successful experiences is necessary to understand the factors of success and avoid the causes of failure. Over the past three decades, India has shown an expansion of market share in global markets in the midst of challenges that developing countries have feared, most notably intellectual property agreements that affect an economic sector that plays an important role in terms of human health, but the question remains how did the pharmaceutical industry in India develop in these circumstances, and what confidence-building factors resulted in its success? Answering the previous question requires a presentation of the development of the pharmaceutical industry India, explore its strengths, and investigate weaknesses to prioritize the change available in the face of challenges.
