Abstract

The elderly are one of the most important groups in any society; their contribution to society with their experience and wisdom makes them a valuable asset to that society. Accordingly, it becomes important to study and analyze the legal nature of the rights they enjoy, whether from the perspective of international law or from the perspective of the Saudi law. The study aims to find different ways to enhance the protection of the rights of the elderly, the most important of which is to point out the benefits of issuing a unified international document that includes all the basic rights of the elderly, and to compare their legal status with the legal status of persons with disabilities; in order to extract similarities and differences in a way that contributes to enhancing the rights of the elderly. The study reached several results, the most important of which is the distinction of the Saudi law in achieving the required protection for the elderly. It is also possible to greatly benefit from the rights recognized for persons with disabilities to expand the scope of protection of the rights of the elderly, whether in international law or the Saudi law.
