The criminal protection of the consumer in the Jordanian Penal Code.

Trade is considered one of the most effective activities in the life of a community, and the modern era has witnessed a noticeable development in this field. There has been an increase in the quantity and quality of goods produced, and the means of production have diversified, thanks to scientific and technological advancements in production, industry, and distribution. This has led to a significant change in consumption patterns and volume, making the individual a consumer in all aspects of life, and he has become the essential element upon which trade is based. Moreover, commercial fraud is not a product of the modern era; the phenomenon of criminal deviation was born with humanity, accompanied it, and developed alongside it. The concern of societies about this matter is as old as the history in which these societies existed. Consumer trust is one of the most important components of trade and economic development; thus, protecting their interests from the greed of traders has been a priority in religious, national, and international legislation. The field of trade may include individuals with low morals who may tempt themselves to use means of deception and fraud to sell their counterfeit products that do not meet specifications, achieving unlawful financial profit and enriching themselves at the expense of the harmed consumer in both his person and his wealth. To combat these risks that consumers may face, legislation aimed at protecting them has emerged, and due to its importance, we observe its echoes both internationally and nationally.
