Abstract

There has been increasing talk lately about Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its role in the global economy, as well as its important and growing role as a driver of productivity and economic growth, and its effective contribution to improving the decision-making process through analyzing large amounts of data. Many economists expect AI to play a vital role in creating new products and services, as well as developing innovative markets and industries, thereby stimulating consumer demand and generating new flows and revenues. Hence, some experts describe AI-driven automation as one of the most significant economic and social developments in history. The World Economic Forum also described AI as the backbone of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Despite the great importance of artificial intelligence applications and global interest in its results, recent developments in AI have raised new concerns about widespread job losses, stemming from its ability to automate an expanding range of tasks (including non-routine cognitive tasks) and its potential impact on every sector of the economy. Furthermore, there are concerns about employee well-being and the broader work environment, associated with the idea that AI may soon spread in the workplace and threaten and undermine the role of humans in it. However, AI also has the potential to complement and enhance human capabilities, leading to increased productivity, increased demand for human labor, and improved job quality.
