Abstract

The struggles of peoples and their conflicts during the ages of control and tyranny in the late 18th century played a significant role in establishing adequate protection for their rights and basic freedoms. The American and French revolutions played an active role in awakening the peoples and alerting them to work towards reclaiming their freedoms from their usurpers. Prior to them, the struggle of the English people for the establishment of the right of individuals to freedom and subjecting the monarchy to the rule of law as the people do equally was evident. The outcome of this struggle resulted in the emergence of declarations of human rights, making rights and freedoms a fundamental pillar in all international treaties and covenants. The right to demonstrate is considered one of the fundamental rights upon which democratic systems are built, as this right reflects the right to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly, which is guaranteed by many international treaties and covenants. The right to demonstrate is one of the intrinsic rights through which individuals can directly and collectively express their opinions to draw the attention of the ruling authority to specific issues of public interest, and international covenants have ensured the mention of this right.
