Abstract

The concept of civil society has evolved and expanded significantly since gaining prominence in the 1980s. Concurrently, the world witnessed a surge in the growth and development of non-governmental organizations. This paved the way for intensifying intellectual discourse on civil society and highlighted its pivotal role as a key partner in development. Consequently, civil society issues, particularly those related to human rights, have become paramount on the 21st-century agenda. The concerns of older persons have emerged as a pressing global issue in recent times, driven by the demographic shift experienced by most countries. The increasing proportion of the elderly population worldwide has placed a considerable burden on governments, especially given the economic repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic. It has therefore become imperative for civil society organizations, dedicated to ensuring a decent standard of living for all members of society, including the elderly, to collaborate with governmental organizations in order to achieve maximum social justice for older persons within the framework of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
