The international legal rights of asylum seekers.

International law recognizes that asylum seekers are entitled to numerous public rights, such as not being subject to any penalties for illegal entry into the country, as well as rights enjoyed by citizens, including practicing religious rituals, the right to education, the right to social security, intellectual and industrial property rights, and the right to litigation. In general, they are also recognized the right to be considered an extraordinary foreigner: this exempts them from the condition of reciprocity and exceptional measures. They have the right to obtain a personal identity card and travel documents, the right to form or join associations and organizations, the right to paid employment, the right to naturalization, and other rights. However, in this chapter, we will review what is primarily of concern to us, which is the specific rights of asylum seekers. International law has guaranteed a special status and several safeguards for the rights of asylum seekers, so that the asylum seeker remains, as much as possible, insulated from marginalization and neglect amid the conflicting interests surrounding them. Moreover, it is a sacred right guaranteed in all divine scriptures, in the principles of ethics and justice, as well as in the rules of international law and certain national legislations. Yet, legal texts alone do not ensure actual implementation; therefore, we will review the special rights guaranteed by international law and then by national legislation to protect the asylum seeker, while also shedding light on some international forums concerned with the issue of asylum and the outcomes resulting from it.
